Neuglück Shaft, Wittichen
General
The Neuglück shaft is situated at the northeastern slope of the upper Böckelsbach valley, about 1 km to the northwest of the convent.
To visit the site, drive to Wittichen, turn to the left (towards the church) after passing the tunnel under the convent and follow the small road about 50 m to the northwest from the convent church to get to a parking lot (gravel lot). From there take a grassy trail following the Böckelsbach creek. At the Sophia mine dump take the smallest trail following the small creek (Böckelsbach creek) further upwards to the northwest. After about 200 m a wooden cabin can be seen to the left, being situated at the totally remediated dump of the Simson mine. An concrete-filled adit can be seen a few meters behind the cabin. The stockpiles of the Neuglück shaft are overgrown in the lower parts. It may be missed at a first glance. But there often is a water flow through the dumps.
The stockpiles are rather heavily dug through, finding good mineral specimens above micromineral size is nearly impossible.
History
The Neuglück shaft is the deepest one in the Wittichen district.
It is closely related to the Alt St. Joseph mine and vein.
